Berlin/Sophia Antipolis, July 2003 – At TestCom 2003,
the leading International Conference for Testing Communicating
Systems, Testing Technologies presented a Web services test
framework to the assembled audience of experts as a vehicle
for the first-ever demonstration of the dynamic distribution
of test components based on TTCN-3 test methods. This new TTCN-3
runtime environment enables test components to be distributed
among a plethora of test nodes within a network and thus allows
for the dynamic distribution, configuration and realization
of test setups. This new solution from Testing Technologies
is the first that overcomes the limitations imposed by a single
testing device and the first that enables the full realization
of scalability, load and stress testing. The way is now open
for the range of multiple possibilities offered by the TTCN-3
specification language to be rolled out and deployed in real-life
scenarios.
Telecommunication and software systems are increasingly reliant
on a raft of network-distributed components which operate together
to provide the system services. For instance, an e-commerce
application will be likely to consist of database and web server
components, security components for authentication and authorization,
and components for billing and invoicing. Thus, a testing system
must take into account the distributed nature of the system
to be tested. It must be configured to the respective components
and placed as close as possible to them in order to avoid distortion
of test results through a number of factors including protracted
run-time. A further key point is that the test configuration
needs to be tailored to the dynamics of the system under test
which displays no fixed, unique configuration itself.
The TTCN-3 solution developed by Testing Technologies is the
first solution which enables the precise abstract specification
and efficient execution of such high-dynamic test configurations.
Testing Technologies demonstrated a TTCN-3 runtime environment
for the automated distribution and configuration of test components
embedded in a communications network which exactly matches
the characteristics of the system under test and those of the
communications network and also meets the requirements of the
test components vis-à-vis their performance environment.
"Best Paper" Award
The Best Paper Award at TestCom 2003, selected by an international
jury from among 53 submissions, was given to Testing Technologies
together with the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS for “Realizing
Distributed TTCN-3 Systems with TTCN-3 Control Interfaces (TCI)”.
The paper presented the first-ever implementation of ETSI standardized
interfaces by Testing Technologies.
